Merry Christmas OtG Team From The Editor…!!!
OnThEGRiND BOXiNG Team,
It’s often times a thankless job around here, so I thought I’d give you guys something you might need. Don’t say I never gave you anything.
- K.M. Stansen. I thought of something really clever for you, and had a video for you to watch and everything. Then I realized with your heart as cold as the Nordic Winter, you wouldn’t have appreciated it. Then I realized you don’t have a heart. Merry Christmas.
- Irish Paddy Cronan. It’s been a tough year for Irish Boxing… Duddy met Lyell, Dunne met Poonsawat, and Rogan met Sexton. At least in the case of Rogan there is a skillset independent of boxing to fall back on. I hear Manny Pacquiao may need transportation to and from the Wild Card in preparation for his next fight. If you hook Rogie up with this for the Pacman fight, there may be a finder’s fee in it for you. No offense to Rogie, or the rest of Ireland. Read more »
How “The Ghost” Stole Christmas…!!!
Thursday December 17th, 2009
by Suge Green
This holiday season sees Kelly “The Ghost” Pavlik taking on a new name. Some of the children of downtrodden and perpetually recession ridden Youngstown, Ohio, are now calling the town’s favorite son Kelly “The Ghost” Pavlik, by another moniker…Kelly “The Grinch” Pavlik.
As the HBO Boxing fan may know, times are hard in Youngstown. Similarly, the HBO boxing fan knows that the mother of Juan Diaz should buy stock in Kleenex, and also that when Juan Manuel Marquez chooses to replenish his fluids he uses his own bodily fluids…but I digress. Times are hard in Youngstown. You’ve heard the stories. The factories have closed down. Companies that were once a staple of the local economy have packed up and gone south of the border to Mexico.
In Mexico the winters are milder, and the labor is cheaper. Sweet margaritas, warm nights on the beach, and even warmer ladies can make an executive forget what was left behind, and simply blame it all on globalization. Contrarily, for the labor force left behind in Youngstown there are plenty of cold nights, women in sweatpants, and beer on tap at many a staph infected bar. To be fair, they do say some of the coldest beer in the United States is found in Youngstown. Globalize that. Read more »
James “Lights Out” Toney Is Going Christmas Shopping…!!!
When you talk about accomplishments in the sport of boxing, you are talking about James “Lights Out” Toney. When you talk about perseverance in the sport of boxing you are talking about James “Lights Out” Toney. For the sake of the unlearned, some of the future Hall of Famer’s achievements include… winning the Middleweight, Super Middleweight, and Cruiserweight Championships of the World, as well as being named The Ring Fighter of the Year for 1991 and 2003, and The Ring Comeback of the Year fighter for 2003. Toney was also voted the Boxing Writers Association of America Fighter of the Year, for 1991 and 2003 respectively. Read more »
Ted Tired of the Bull…!!!

Wednesday December 2nd, 2009
by Suge Green
Award winning boxing writer and friend of OnThEGRiND BOXiNG Ted “The Bull” Sares, is no longer at the ancient relic of a website called eastsideboxing. After the recent departure of the only ESB writers that were somewhat respected within the boxing community, this comes as a fatal blow to the already challenged integrity of the Euro-based “news source.” While it may be cloudy skies in Klitschkonia (those in the know realize that eastside actually started as a “Klitschko fan site”), things are lookiing good at Ted’s new home. BadLeftHook is the lucky website to pick up Ted’s services, and his features can be found there from now on.
“I am every excited about writing for Bad Left Hook, as their focus is on boxing,” commented Ted.
Ted of course, has developed a large readership through his years of excellent work, and is loved and respected by close followers of the sport of boxing world wide. OnThEGRiND BOXiNG wish Ted and BadLeftHook the best of luck. To read the latest from Ted Sares check out BadLeftHook.com.
Attention All Boxing Writers: Get Off Pacman & Mayweather’s Nuts…!!!
Saturday November 21st, 2009
by Suge Green
How many Mayweather articles can be written in boxing? How many articles can be written about Mayweather in one day? How many articles on Mayweather can be written by one man, in one day? How many Mayweather articles can be written by one man, in one day, and posted on one site?
Boxing writers now days seldom report news. What they in fact do, is wait for news to be reported…copy it, and put it out within minutes often times, of the original source. A small change here or there, a thought or rhetorical question added…Yawn. Read more »
Haye vs Valuev: Can David Beat Nikolay-ath & Sell John Ruiz a Bag of Magic Beans…???
Saturday October 31th, 2009
by Suge Green
As the world approaches David vs Nikolay-ath, boxing fans on two and a half continents are eagerly anticipating the bout, as the charismatic and conventionally sized Englishmen faces the towering Russian behemoth.
The North American fans that have managed to maintain consciousness while watching heavyweight boxing are about to be rewarded as well, even if most of our boxing brethren gave up hope on the division when Vitali Klitschko returned, ensuring the perpetual fracture of the division for some time to come. However, with the Klitschko brothers teamed up and taking the bouts that are the most stylistically appealing and advantageous to them, based upon their respective skill sets, a modern retelling of an age old tale may be just what’s needed to break the monotony of a division suffering from the previously mentioned lacklustre co-rule. Povetkin vs Chambers For the Interim Heavyweight Title ? Don’t Think So…
Thursday October 15th, 2009
by Suge Green - OnThEGRiND BoXiNG
In light of all of the rumors circulating surrounding the IBF’s decision to hold a contest to determine their new Interim Heavyweight Champion, some clarification is needed. While it may be true that Alexander Povetkin has been granted the opportunity to fight for the temporary strap, it is not as certain at this time who the contender he will face shall be. Read more »
Why I Can Never Be A Wladimir Klitschko Fan
I call the reader’s attention to the comments made between the 1:07-1:22 marks.
Wed. Sept. 23, 2009
by Suge Green - OnThEGRiND BoXiNG
While this may go without saying for some of the loyal OnThEGRiND BoXiNG Family reading these words around the globe, what those familiar with the author would expect is not the intent of this short piece however. I will not lay out facts, backroom dealings, quotes, dates, times, or careful critiques and analysis of specific bouts in illustration of why Wladimir Klitschko is a “half champion” in the heavyweight division. Instead, I intend to focus the reader’s attention on the current IBF/IBO/WBO and Ring Magazine Champion’s recent comments with regard to his being part of a “team.” Read more »
Suge Green’s 100th Episode Address…

Sunday September 13th, 2009
by Suge Green
That’s It OtG BoXiNG Family…We Are In The Triple Digits Now.
I’m the 1st to admit that when OnThEGRiND 1st started it had no direction whatsoever. OtG was nothing more than a vehicle for fans of the sport of boxing to interact by way of phone and PC, and to listen to some rather amateurish and sometimes inebriated “hosts” share their views. While this in itself may be groundbreaking, the show still had a long way to go.

Hey HBO…Leave Friday Night Fights Alone…!!!

Friday August 14th, 2009
by Suge Green
For the 2nd week in a row HBO is playing their Collins-Resto documentary, “Assault in the Ring” in the same time slot as ESPN2′s Friday Night Fights.
The 1st time was bad enough, but 2 weeks in a row…???
The boxing media needs to start putting the people who support, follow, and spend for this sport first. The fans should be able to watch all of the boxing programming, bar the occasional conflict. This is the same situation 2 weeks in a row, and it looks intentional.
We need more times to watch boxing during the week, not more boxing programs at the same time.
HBO…Get a clue.
“Fast” Eddie Chambers vs Alexander Dimitrenko Fight Results… Eddie Victorious, Hits Dimitrenko & World With Fireworks on the 4th of July ’09…!!!
Saturday July 4th, 2009
by Suge Green
“Fast” Eddie Chambers is celebrating his Independence Day abroad in Germany following his spectacular disassembly of the Ukraine’s latest export in robotics, Alexander “Sasha” Dimitrenko. Unlike the last time “Fast” Eddie put hands on someone named “Sasha,” he didn’t fade late in the night and walk away with a broken heart, rather he made Alexander look more like he was named Sasha at birth, by beating him like he stole something at several points during their battle. Suge Green’s Boxing Notebook…The WBA: World’s Biggest Asses
Monday June 1st, 2009
by Suge Green
The World’s Biggest Asses are at it again. At what ? Too early to say. Knowing how the WBA does business though, and having witnessed how they solve problems in the past, why should one wait to cast stones ? How many Heavyweight “Champions” will the WBA have by the time the month of June is over ? The alternative to crowing multiple champions is for the WBA to anoint Nikolay Valuev undisputed. The WBA loses credibility either way. Which forces one to question…can a sanctioning body lose credibility when it doesn’t have any ? This is the situation that they have created, and they will only continue perpetuating their sham of a heavyweight division further. The WBA Heavyweight Division is the only division in boxing I get confused with horse racing, it is after all the only place in the sport terms like triple crown and trifecta seem to apply. WBA…You are a disgrace of a sanctioning body. Read more »
Suge Green’s Boxing Notebook…SHOCKING: WLaD KLiT Even Manages To Make “The Hypemaker” David Haye Look Boring
Wladimir KLiTschko.
Are you still awake ? The mere mention of the name usually adds at least one additional hour to the fight fan’s nightly sleep totals. While excitement levels in WLaD’s division may be at record lows in recent years according to the sport’s devout, on the bright side insomnia levels are down across the board.
In this featured clip Wladimir Klitschko manages to take a moment that fight fans dream of (David Haye arrives at their London Press Conference with “The Shirt” on, and making bold threats), and show a lack of interest and timing that can only be rivaled by BigTime Timmy and his making shameless plugs on OtG BoXiNG RaDIo. WLaD not only has a powerful right as we’ve seen in the past, he has an unparalleled ability to take you out of the excitement of the moment and drop you into the middle of a tedious calculus study session, as he demonstrates here.
Any more press conferences like this one and there is sure to be several thousand good German citizens in line clamoring for refunds.
“Knock-Out in Schalke.” Whoever named this thing must be the same guy writing Wladimir’s lines for him.
Suge Green’s Boxing Notebook Special Edition, Staples Center Speculation: Oscar De La Hoya’s Looming Announcement
Saturday, April 11th 2009
by Suge Green
Firstly, I’m not pretending I know what Oscar De La Hoya‘s highly anticipated announcement is. However from his appearance this weekend on ESPN2′s FridayNightFights, he gave hints to the boxing world’s insiders that what they have believed all along is true…Oscar will indeed fight again, and he will sell the “weight thing” hard as his reason for looking shot last year in Las Vegas against Manny Pacquiao.
When he makes his announcement on the 14th of this month at Los Angeles’ Staples Center he may give an approximate time for his return, or he may say he’s not returning at all for now…but when he does talk, “the weight” is going to be his big excuse for his disassembly at the quick hands of Manny Pacquiao, and whether he chooses to admit it or not, at some point he WILL fight again. Suge Green’s Boxing Notebook: Special Edition…Money Mayweather’s “Tuneup Lotto”
As the rumors increase in frequency, and in the reputability of the respective sources reporting them, many have already accepted that Pretty Boy Floyd Mayweather is returning to the boxing ring later this year. While it isn’t exactly confirmed yet, many fans and pundits of the sport alike have began to speculate as to who Floyd’s next opponent might be. Though it’s pretty much a given that he will be looking to reaffirm his pound for pound ranking…specifically it is thought that he desires either a bout with the winner of Pacquiao-Hatton scheduled for later this year, or possibly a contest versus Juan Manuel Marquez in the not too distant future. However on his way there, it is all but a given that he will be fighting the traditional “tuneup” fight first. Read more »
Suge Green’s Boxing Notebook…Hopkins, Kirkland, Forbes, Roach-Mayweather Sr., Ruiz
March 8th 2009
by Suge Green
In light of Joe Calzaghe’s apparent commitment to retirement, Bernard Hopkins has declared Tomasz Adamek his target. This writer would personally rather see Bernard go after WBA Champ Nicolay Valuev, in what would be no doubt be a bonafide superfight. The largest heavyweight champ in history against the former undisputed middleweight ruler, would capture the public’s imagination in a way that a bout with the conventionally sized recent heavyweight champion Oleg Maskaev could not, and Bernard actually campaigned a little for that one when Oleg had the WBC Title. Cruiserweight kingpin Adamek is certainly a formidable adversary, and no doubt a worthy challenge for Hopkins, but the fight would not bring Bernard any closer to the mainstream notoriety he would achieve should he pursue the larger than life heavyweight match up.

Suge Green’s Boxing Notebook…Special Edition: Heavyweight Rankings
March 2, 2009 by Suge Green, OnTheGrindBoxing.com: With some solid heavyweight action lined up for later this month, it seems an opportune time to put the heavyweight division into some much needed perspective….First of all, my rankings don’t use a points system, it’s purely subjective. A variety of criteria such as head to head, resume, recent opposition, streak, etc. were considered before compiling these rankings….I did not rank injured or recently inactive figters.
1. Vitali Klitschko…he’d own Wlad, and that’s enough reason to put him here, my rankings… I make the rules.
2. Wladimir Klitschko…should be number 1, but his recently active big brother would own him.
3. Samuel Peter…so far the only answer in the HW division for the bruising menace known as The Nigerian Nightmare has been Ukranian.

Suge Green’s Boxing Notebook…Oscar DLH: “Luckily He (Pac) Doesn’t Hit Hard” also Chambers, Arum, Gamboa, and Judah
February 22nd 2009
by Suge Green
As we continue inching ever closer to the May showdown between Ricky “The Hitman” Hatton and pound for pound superstar Manny Pacquiao, let’s consider recent comments made by Oscar De La Hoya about his ill fated effort against the Filipino (as reported in the L.A. Times)…”I felt as if he could just land anything and I couldn’t do anything about it. I just didn’t care. I didn’t care if he was hitting me because I couldn’t do anything about it. Luckily he doesn’t hit hard. Obviously, if he would’ve hit hard, he would have knocked me out with no problem.” I guess Oscar doesn’t count TKOs as KO defeats. He’s going to have to be specific in the future then about his victories over Mayorga, Campas, Vargas, and even Gatti. The last time he scored a knockout without a “T” in front of it was against a guy named Derrell Coley 9 years ago this month. Doh.

Suge Green’s Boxing Notebook…Campbell, Cotto-Jennings, Gamboa, Dirrell, Brinkley, Klitschko-Haye
Sunday February 15th
by Suge Green/ www.OnThEGRIndBoXiNG.com
Nate Campbell had a tough bout but came out on top Saturday night, in his native Florida in the main event of Don King’s HBO card. Nate admitted post bout that he was physically effected by his failed attempt to make weight, and psychologically so by losing his titles at the scale. Campbell fought through the physical and emotional adversity however, along with the adversity that turned out to be the very game Ali Funeka. The African employed a solid strategy for defeating Nate and probably would have got the nod from many observers had he not suffered two knockdowns, one in the 2nd round and the other in the 11th. Funeka displayed the heart of a champion in climbing up off of the canvas not once but twice, and in making it to the final bell against an experienced warrior and a champion. Any who would say that the Galaxy Warrior is no longer a champion need only consider that People’s Championships are not made of Gold with the purpose of adorning an athlete’s waist, they are made of the hearts and minds of the boxing public…it will take more than a failed trip to the scales on a Friday the 13th in February to strip Campbell of that title. The boxing world now awaits his campaign at 140lbs.
