Martin Rogan Robbed in Bizarro-World
Saturday May 16th, 2009
By Padraig Hoare
We’ve seen it all now. Boxing finally entered the realm of Bizarro-World in Belfast tonight.
On a glorious occasion that should have secured Martin Rogan’s place among the sporting immortals on the isle of Ireland, instead we were treated to a refereeing performance straight from the Jerry Seinfeld Bizarro-World playbook. Rogan lost his Commonwealth heavyweight title on a cuts stoppage, despite having his opponent all but knocked out 30 seconds earlier. It had all the hallmarks of a dubious hometown decision, except it was the hometown fighter on the receiving end. Read more »

by Jesse Rican
After having the pleasure of witnessing James Moore fight up close and personal, I was privileged enough to have a one on one interview with him. It was my pleasure as James turned out to be quite a funny and charismatic character.
Moore looked happy after his victory, which was a little harder than most expected. I asked James, “How would you evaluate tonight’s performance?” Read more »

R.I.P. Jermain Taylor & Ricky Hatton…The Last Days of Two Very Talented Boxers
Thursday May 7th, 2009
by Jesse Rican
After beating Bernard Hopkins twice (on paper) many believed Jermain Taylor was boxing’s next force to be reckoned with. In facing Winky Wright in a fight which many believed was too close to call, Jermain became an even more well known and recognizable figure, not only to boxing fans but to everyone.
Jermain Taylor was a vicious fighter, however after his ALMOST destruction of recent OnThEGRiND BoXiNG RaDIo guest Kelly Pavlik, Jermain lost his heart. In response to my question to Kelly about whether he thought he would survive the second round assault he fell victim to during his career defining bout with Jermain Taylor, he replied “Very good question (unlike OnThEGRiND BoXiNG’s BigTime Tim aka Silent Bob).” He went on to say Read more »
Katsidis Eyes Bout With Undecided Ricky Hatton
Wednesday May 6th, 2009
by Suge Green
Ricky Hatton is still milling over the future of his career, and rightfully so. It hasn’t even been a week since his brutal stoppage loss to P4P King Manny Pacquiao, yet everyday another story surfaces stating that he still doesn’t know what he is going to do. We still don’t know what Hatton intends to do, and we assume he doesn’t either so at OnThEGRiND BoXiNG we are going to show that we can go a single day without asking him or his team what they plan on doing. Let’s instead look at another fighter who’s been knocking on Hatton’s door.
The other fighter who’s future is somewhat uncertain in the aftermath of Pacquiao-Hatton, is Australian star Michael Katsidis. Brendon Smith the trainer of Katsidis, told reporter Adrian Warren that he had been in talks with Hatton’s team prior to last weekend’s super fight. Read more »
Storm Center Warning: “Irish Lightning” Heading East…Unbeaten Dean Byrne fighting May 15th in Yonkers
May 4th, 2009
Los Angeles
Fresh off of his impressive victory last Friday night in Las Vegas, unbeaten light welterweight sensation Dean “Irish Lightning” Byrne is heading East to fight in New York for the first time May 15 against an opponent to be determined on the O’Shea Brothers Boxing-promoted card in Yonkers.
Crumlin-native Byrne, 24, floored Mexican southpaw Jose Reynoso (10-3, 1 KO) three times in the first four-rounds en route to an entertaining 8-round win by decision at South Point Hotel Casino to keep his perfect pro record intact (11-0, 4 KOs).
Byrne, trained by the great Freddie Roach, has found a home at the famed Wild Card Boxing Gym in Los Angeles, where Dean has benefited from sparring with Manny Pacquiao, Amir Khan and Juan Marquez. A veteran of more than 200 amateur fights, Byrne was an Irish National champion who turned pro in Australia, capturing the New South Wales State belt in only his fourth pro fight, and adding the Australian crown one fighter later in a 10-round bout. On his way from Australia to relocate in Boston, Dean stopped in Los Angeles and trained at Wild Card, where Roach took an instant shine to his now protégé.
Post-Fight Pacquiao-Hatton…Manny, Freddie & Sugar Shane
Manny looking and feeling great after the fight in this interview. Sugar Shane calls out Pacquiao…Freddie Roach: “Floyd could have waited one day for Pacquiao but he signed to fight Marquez, I think he is scared.”
The Ladies Still Love Freddie Roach. Well done Team Pacquiao.
