Alex Strutt Onward and Upward

by Chris Akers courtesy of BoxingCapital.com

When I first started to write about boxing on the internet, the first interview I conducted was with a promoter named Ken Purchase. I remember asking him who from his stable had the potential to achieve real success in the sport. The name he came out with was a middleweight named Alex Strutt. That was a little under two years ago. Read more »

The Demise of Boxing, and the Rise of MMA. Why it’s happening…

Sunday July 12th, 2009
By Jack Johnson Presscot

Recently, I read an article by 2 Vegas Journalists, arguing why MMA was or was not taking over boxing’s spot as the numero uno gladiator sport. Unfortunately, the writer supporting MMA easily won the argument. Here are a few of the reasons why MMA has taken over boxing’s spot.

1. The Weakness of the Heavyweight Division. Right now we have two Ukranian Brothers holding the World Championship hostage. These two brothers, aside from their height, are virtually nondescript. The average sports fan probably would not recognize them outside of a boxing venue Read more »

Full Agbeko vs Darchinyan Fight Card Results and Quotes

POST FIGHT RING QUOTES

JOSEPH KING KONG AGBEKO: “He [Darchinyan] pushed me in the seventh round and throughout the fight. He is very dirty and rough in the ring. I was fighting two people in the ring: Darchinyan and the referee. But I didn’t care if there were five people in the ring tonight, I was going in to win and come back out with my championship belt.

“Darchinyan talked a lot before the fight and I turned him into ‘the raging bullshitter’ like I said I would. I’m still the champion, not the chimpanzee he said I was.”

“I have always said I would carry the greatness of Ghana with me to the top and that’s what I have done. I want to be considered among the top pound for pound fighters in the world. I think I have earned it.” Read more »

Terry Edwards MBE Coaching Marianne ‘Golden Girl’ Marston For September Fight

Sunday July 12th, 2009
London, UK/Philadelphia PA, USA

British Super Bantamweight Marianne ‘Golden Girl’ Marston’s American visa woes, which prevented her debuting on the undercard of Brian Cohen’s WBC Americas title fight in South Philadelphia in May, have been well documented over the past few months, however the plucky blonde hasn’t been sitting back and sulking instead she has been training for six hours a day at Rooney’s Boxing Gym in London.

Marianne’s clear ability and dedication hasn’t gone unnoticed by anyone that has visited Rooney’s Boxing Gym over the past few months, including Great Britain’s most successful coach of all time, Terry Edwards MBE, who offered to spend some time coaching her. Read more »

Adamek Gunn Weigh-In Results

IBF Cruiserweight Championship

July 11, 2009 – Prudential Center, Newark , NJ

IBF Cruiserweight Champion, Tomasz Adamek, stepped on the scale today in preparation for the defense of his championship belt. Looking fit and ready, Adamek weighed in at 199 lbs. Challenger, Bobby Gunn, was also in fighting shape, coming in at 194 lbs.

Bobby Gunn expressed his usual enthusiasm, saying, “I wish the fight were today, that’s how ready I am. I’m so excited. Tomorrow is going to be a great night. I have about 50 people coming in on a plane right now, there are so many people are coming out to support me. It’s fantastic. I will not let them down!”

Adamek, responding to a question from a fan asking if Adamek thought this was going to be an easy fight said, “I am too intensely professional to take Bobby Gunn lightly. There is danger every time you step in the ring. I have worked too hard to lose all I have just because I didn’t take my job seriously.” “But tomorrow there will be no let down for my fans.” “First opportunity I get I will try to knock Bobby Gunn out, because I don’t get paid for overtime!”

Tickets are still available. Prudential Center box office will open at 11am Saturday 7/11. Tickets priced at $38, $53, $78, $103 and $253 (ringside), can be purchased at Prudential Center Box Office, by calling TicketMaster at 800-745-3000 or Prucenter.com. First fight 7:00pm. Doors open 6:30pm.

BigTime Timmy Tells It Like It Is…This Column Is Fire Edition

Friday July 10th, 2009
by BigTime Tim Kudgis

I would like to welcome back my legions of loyal fans and thank you all once again for reading what could be the single most underrated boxing column on the internet today, and I can’t forget to mention future P4P. There is a boatload of things we are going to discuss today. I would like to do more of an intro… but hey, who needs it? Lets get into the good stuff.

Eddie Chambers upsets Alexander Dimitrenko on the 4th of July in Germany for the WBO mandatory position:

Poor Sascha did not know what he was in for when he agreed to fight “Fast” Eddie. Right now he has to be feeling betrayed by the media, the majority of the boxing fans, his team, the odds makers, the judges in Germany, and his fans who ultimately turned into “Fast Eddie” fans. Almost everyone had written this fight off as a win for Dimitrenko including myself, but of course I should elaborate. I told the world the Eddie would easily handle good ol’ Sascha but those tricky judges over in Germany normally give the hometown favorite a 7 round lead. Read more »

Wallstreet Report…Your Pugilism Prospectus for Profit

Friday July 10th, 2009
by James Thurston Wallstreet III

Welcome Back to the Wallstreet Report. A lot of people have been asking me what is my track record with my investments, and oddly enough I do not have an answer for them, so today we will start something new. I am going to list the fight and a brief description of the investment I would make and why. We will keep total by me investing up to a hypothetical $100 per investment opportunity. Each week I will repeat the same process to show how great I am at investing in boxing. Let’s get this show on the road.

Investment Opportunity- Shaun George (-225) vs. Chris Henry (+175)
Investment Decision- This was a tough decision. Chris Henry is a legitimate top contender who very narrowly lost to Yusef Mack. Also Shaun George has not necessarily been that active since easily defeating Chris Byrd back in 2008. Although the odds are very nice for Chris Henry I am going to have to invest in Mr. George. The reason why is not to long ago Mr. Henry was arrested, tased, and said to have been high on pcp, so who knows where his head is at. My final decision is $100 on Shaun George Read more »
