Everybody following boxing knows that German boxing includes boxers from nations such as Russia, Ukraine, Armenia, Hungary, Cuba and many others. Due to its economic power Germany has become a melting pot for boxers, whose home nations lack the capabilities to promote them appropriately. Though Germany itself has produced some successful but sometimes also controversial champions like Max Schmeling, Henry Maske, Sven Ottke and Markus Beyer, most of today’s boxers weren’t born in Germany or come from a different cultural background. One example would be Arthur Abraham, who became a household name due to his Super Six participation. The focus of this article however, is not on the already established champions, it wants to examine who could become one in the not too distant future. This New Years Day instead of taking a well deserved break from training, former IBF Cruiserweight Champion of the World, Steve ‘USS’ Cunningham will instead be lacing up his running shoes to take part in the AngerWear sponsored Stanley’s Dream 5K run in West Chester, Pennsylvania.
Steve, who is passionate in his belief of helping others less fortunate than himself, jumped at the opportunity to help raise funds for Stanley’s Dream, a fund for the Chester County Foundation, which provides college scholarships to graduating seniors and supports childhood brain cancer research grants to hospitals. Stansen’s Law: The Super Fight Negotiations Debacle, Who’s to Blame…???

Floyd Mayweather Jr. vs. Manny Pacquiao is possibly the largest prospective fight of the last twenty years. To put things into proper perspective here, I challenge anyone to think of a fight that involved the two fighters with such valid claims for ‘the greatest of their generation,’ that were at a point where they can and should face off. Pacquiao and Mayweather stand at a crossroads in time where they are not only within weight range of one another (weights where they both have proven themselves effective), but also are at or near their physical primes, all of which foreshadows a potential treat of legendary proportions.
A fight such as this is old school my friends. However, recent developments in the negotiation process are most distressing to any hardcore fan. When a fight featuring legend versus legend is proposed during this low risk generation, witnessing new school greed and safety first tactics threaten to put the breaks on the dream match before ink is put to paper, can’t be anything but troubling. My fellow fans, who or what do you believe is to blame here? The consensus so far amongst the pundits and casual fans alike, is that both sides are to blame. It appears that we’re experiencing the continued decay of old school ‘mano y mano’ ethics that were stabbed, shot, and then stuffed in the ground after the 1980s. Read more »

Ghana’s Two Time Commonwealth Super Middleweight Champion Charles ‘The Crusader’ Adamu celebrated his victory over Liverpool’s Carl ‘Dynamite’ Dilks on Friday night by calling out current WBC Super Middleweight World Champion Carl ‘The Cobra’ Froch.
Adamu, who first lifted the Commonwealth belt back in August 2003 with a scintillating performance over Southampton’s Matthew Barney, controversially lost the decision to Carl Froch, in his home city of Nottingham, on the 12th March 2004. Read more »

How “The Ghost” Stole Christmas…!!!

This holiday season sees Kelly “The Ghost” Pavlik taking on a new name. Some of the children of downtrodden and perpetually recession ridden Youngstown, Ohio, are now calling the town’s favorite son Kelly “The Ghost” Pavlik, by another moniker…Kelly “The Grinch” Pavlik.
As the HBO Boxing fan may know, times are hard in Youngstown. Similarly, the HBO boxing fan knows that the mother of Juan Diaz should buy stock in Kleenex, and also that when Juan Manuel Marquez chooses to replenish his fluids he uses his own bodily fluids…but I digress. Times are hard in Youngstown. You’ve heard the stories. The factories have closed down. Companies that were once a staple of the local economy have packed up and gone south of the border to Mexico.
In Mexico the winters are milder, and the labor is cheaper. Sweet margaritas, warm nights on the beach, and even warmer ladies can make an executive forget what was left behind, and simply blame it all on globalization. Contrarily, for the labor force left behind in Youngstown there are plenty of cold nights, women in sweatpants, and beer on tap at many a staph infected bar. To be fair, they do say some of the coldest beer in the United States is found in Youngstown. Globalize that. Read more »
