Sheika Wins Slugfest Against Kruger, McLean Upsets Saleem In Shocker…Danny O’Connor, Gingras & Sujak All Winners…!!!
Wednesday September 23rd, 2009 (pm)
Manchester, N.H.
Three-time world title challenger Omar Sheika won an entertaining slugfest tonight against a game Theo Kruger in the main event on the 8th annual “Fight To Educate” card at the Verizon Wireless Arena in Manchester, New Hampshire.
The 8th annual “Fight To Educate,” presented by MB Tractor & Equipment, in association with Cedric Kushner’s Gotham Boxing, benefitted the SEE Science Center, Bobby Stephen Fund for Education, and The Veterans Count Club.
Sheika (28-9, 19 KOs) wore-down Kruger (9-9-2, 3 KOs) and took a knee in the seventh round after Sheika unloaded a barrage of punches. The onslaught continued in the eighth as Kruger was decked again. He beat the 10-count on shaky legs, but the fight was wisely halted by the referee at that point. Read more »
Why I Can Never Be A Wladimir Klitschko Fan
I call the reader’s attention to the comments made between the 1:07-1:22 marks.
Wednesday September 23rd, 2009
by Suge Green - OnThEGRiND BoXiNG
While this may go without saying for some of the loyal OnThEGRiND BoXiNG Family reading these words around the globe, what those familiar with the author would expect is not the intent of this short piece however. I will not lay out facts, backroom dealings, quotes, dates, times, or careful critiques and analysis of specific bouts in illustration of why Wladimir Klitschko is a “half champion” in the heavyweight division. Instead, I intend to focus the reader’s attention on the current IBF/IBO/WBO and Ring Magazine Champion’s recent comments with regard to his being part of a “team.” Read more »
Prospect Perkins Steps Into Prizefighter Contest For Grieving Sprott
Undefeated prospect Neil Perkins has been given a potential life-changing opportunity by being drafted into Prizefighter Heavyweights III.
Perkins, 27, comes in to replace Michael Sprott, who has withdrawn from the eight-man, one-night boxing tournament after the recent death of his sister Ginette.
The latest Prizefighter event, which will be staged at the ExCel in London on Friday, October 2, features some of the biggest names in British boxing.
Current British Champion Danny Williams and former Olympic Games gold medalist Audley Harrison are among the other competitors, all vying for the £32,000 winner’s prize.
“This is a huge opportunity for me and I’m going to take it,” said Perkins, undefeated from his four professional fights.
“I got the phone call saying if I wanted to be in Prizefighter and I had ten minutes to decide but I didn’t need any time and immediately said ‘I’m in.’ Read more »
Ex-Brit Champ Gammer Vows Revenge On Williams At Prizefighter Contest
Scott Gammer has vowed to get revenge on Danny Williams and then claim the Prizefighter Heavyweights III title.
Gammer, 32, lost his British Heavyweight Championship to Williams in 2007 and the pair are on a collision course to meet again on October 2.
If both men win their quarter-finals they will meet in the semi-finals of Barry Hearn’s latest eight-man, one-night tournament at the ExCel in London.
“It would be lovely to fight and beat Danny Williams,” admitted Gammer. “It’s nothing personal against Danny, he is a nice fellow, but the point is he beat me and took my title off of me. Read more »

Floyd Mayweather Jr: Mind Bending Skills, Questionable Application
Tuesday September 22nd, 2009
by K.M. Stansen - OnThEGRiND BoXiNG
Nobody of sound mind would question that Floyd Mayweather Jr. is probably the most skilled boxer of his generation. His skills go so deep that he even turns the heads of fellow Hall of Fame elites, as well as other all time greats. Over the years Floyd has indeed displayed a measure of versatility that few boxers possess. Not only does this man have the skill set of dreams for most fighters, but Mayweather is so gifted that his combination of physical gifts and boxing mastery have seen him virtually embarrass elite level opponents like they were mere sparring partners.
I have to say however that while I can go on and on about how great he is as a boxer, I can just as quickly follow up by going on about how he’s bad for boxing and how he truthfully hasn’t been a ‘fighter’ for the last 4th of his career or so. Read more »

Mike Tyson Predicts Williams vs Harrison in Prizefighter Final…!!!
Former undisputed heavyweight world champion Mike Tyson admits he has turned into a softie.
One-time hell-raiser Tyson, once known as the ‘Baddest Man on the Planet’, believes he is now a reformed, family man.
“As far as my personal life goes, everything’s changed,” said Tyson. “I have an eight-month-old baby and a new wife - I’m like Mr Mom now.
“That’s good for me and what I need. I used to be the kind of guy that would go out to get some milk and not come home for three days.”
Tyson, 43, recently performed the draw in Las Vegas for Prizefighter Heavyweights III, Barry Hearn’s eight-man, one-night tournament at London’s ExCel on October 2.
The draw set up a potential rematch between British Champion Danny Williams and former Olympic gold medalist Audley Harrison.
“That would be one hell of final. Danny is great guy and a great fighter,” said Tyson, who lost to Williams in 2004.
“I don’t know if Audley is content with his gold medal. It’s one hell of an achievement but professional boxing is so different.
“Audley has tons of ability and style, but style doesn’t win fights, it’s the moral behind the fight. Read more »

German Boxing Roundup

Wednesday September 16th, 2009
by Nino Celic - OnThEGRiND BoXiNG Central Europe
Due to all of the big fights coming up, German boxing is currently somewhat overlooked, but recently some interesting developments have occurred
Felix Sturm leaves Universum
The German middleweight belt holder announced on his homepage, that he is no longer part of Universum Box Promotion. He says he had had a great time with Universum, but it was time to do it his own way. In a recent interview though, he found harsh words for his old employer: “I’d rather quit boxing than go on with Universum.” Sturm’s contract expires in November this year, but Universum still has an option for another three years. So Sturm hired the same lawyers the Klitschkos did, when they broke up from Universum. Sturm also wants to start his own promotion company. This would mean that he would no longer be dependent on the ZDF network, which was one of the obstacles that inhibited the unification bout with Arthur Abraham. The private channel RTL (which also has an exclusive deal with the Klitschkos) might be interested in signing Sturm. Read more »
