Boxing Promoters Big Up The Sport Following Mayweather-Marquez

It is my pleasure, on behalf of the Boxing Promoter’s Association (BPA), to congratulate our sport in once again showing that BOXING is truly desired by fans. In as much the recent Mayweather-Marquez boxing event on HBO/PPV produced over a million buys and generated over $52 million dollars, it is clear that those that underestimate the appeal of BOXING are mistaken.

What is particularly interesting is that the BOXING match went head to head with UFC 103, which was also a PPV event. Many sports reporters incorrectly predicted that the UFC/MMA event would exceed the sales of the BOXING event. While the exact amount of buys for UFC 103 hasn’t been made available by UFC President Dana White, all estimates are under 500K buys, less than one-half as the Mayweather-Marquez BOXING broadcast. “I’ll Maye Tyson Eat His Words,” Says Fridge…!!!

Carl Baker has vowed to make Mike Tyson eat his words after ‘Iron Mike’ ridiculed him live on television.

Tyson performed the draw for next Friday’s Prizefighter Heavyweights III and dismissed Baker as having no chance after he was paired with Danny Williams.

Baker, 27, believes Tyson’s words will motivate him towards the biggest victory in his career over Williams, the current British Champion.

“When I heard Tyson say that my first reaction was he doesn’t know me so how could he say that?” said Baker, who has won eight of 11 professional contests.

“Tyson has never seen me box but, after all, Danny beat him, so what else could Tyson say? I might offer Tyson out after I’ve beat Danny! Read more »

Jermaine Taylor Is Chill Prior To Abraham Fight

Houston, Tx

Sometimes a fighter can find himself up against the ropes. That’s the feeling most people in the boxing community have about Jermain Taylor. He’s fighting an undefeated former champ in his hometown and he is the underdog. The pressure is on, but nothing could be further from Taylor’s mind as he prepares to face Arthur Abraham on October 17th, at the o2 World arena in Berlin, Germany.

“If anyone thinks I’m lacking in confidence or feeling any pressure, they’re dead wrong,” said Taylor. “Just because I’ve lost a few fights, I’m not ready to be written off. “Sometimes a fighter can lose and get beat up with that loss. That has not happened to me. I beat myself in every fight I lost, but I have learned from my mistakes. I’m a better fighter because of the losses.” Read more »

On Wednesday September 30th Star Boxing’s heavyweight contender, “Devastatin” Devin Vargas (17-1, 7KO) will look to get back into the win column when he takes on Terrell “Baby Bull” Nelson (8-8, 5KO) at Russo’s On The Bay in Howard Beach, NY. The bout is scheduled for eight rounds in the heavyweight division.

Vargas recently took time out of his training schedule to talk about his upcoming fight, what he thinks of the heavyweight division as a whole, and what fighters in particular are on his immediate hitlist.

Q: Devin, how has everything been leading up to this fight? How long have you been in training?

DV: Everything has been good leading up to this fight. I had a good six weeks notice for this so I trained really hard. I will weigh anywhere between 216lbs and 220lbs. I finally started lifting weights so I am starting to put some muscle on, I still need some work, but I feel much stronger already. Read more »

Audley Vows to “Inflict More Punishment On Williams!”

AUDLEY Harrison has threatened to inflict ‘a lot more punishment’ on Danny Williams in Friday’s Prizefighter Heavyweights III event.

Harrison, 37, thinks victory in the eight-man, one-night tournament will see ‘the rebirth’ of his career and lead to him becoming World Champion inside two years.

However, Williams, the current British Champion, potentially stands between Harrison and Prizefighter glory at London’s ExCel Arena.

The pair, who have fought twice with one win apiece, are in separate halves of the draw and could only fight in a mouth-watering final. Read more »

Tucker Pounds Out Decision Over Strohl…New USBO Light Heavyweight Champ

Westminster, MD

Buoyed by a standing room only crowd at the Shipley Arena, Mark “TNT” Tucker improved his professional ledger to 12-0 (7 KO’s) after a dominant unanimous decision victory over Las Vegas’ Jim “Steel Chin” Strohl 27-8 (21 KO’s). Supported chants of “TNT, TNT”, Tucker got off to a fast start by staggering Strohl in the opening round with hard 1-2 combinations.

Tucker opened up a cut under Strohl’s eye with a straight left hand in the fifth and continued to have success while boxing from a distance. The bloody Strohl lived up to his billing, as he continued to press forward throughout the contest while managing to stay on his feet after being stunned on multiple occasions. Scores were 100-90, 99-91 and 98-92 for Tucker, who took home the USBO Light Heavyweight title with the victory. Read more »
