Stansen’s Law: The Lopez/Caballero Feud

Monday August 31st, 2009
by K.M. Stansen
Greetings once again boxing fans, here we shall take a look at the Lopez/Caballero debacle in-depth and try to come to a verdict on ‘what is actually going on.’
The facts:
1. Celestino Caballero has been calling out Juan Ma obsessively for close to a year now.
2. Caballero holds two belts and has fetched himself a P4P top 10 ranking, while seemingly being easy pickings for an elite fighter, and would provide a good payday and meritable win at this point for a fighter that is looking to ‘breakout’ per say.
3. Around late 2008 and into early 2009 Lopez made it clear that he did not want to fight Caballero, and also made it sternly known to all that he will attempt to go for Vasquez or Marquez…and that his management is in control of his career. Read more »

Chris Arreola…Mexican American Heavyweight Ready To Wear The Mantle of Jack Johnson, Not Concerned About Klitschko and Steroids

Monday August 24th, 2009
by Alex McIntyre - OnThEGRiND BoXiNG Scotland
Upon hearing the news from Chris Arreola’s trainer Henry Ramirez that Chris intends to “come out with guns ablaze” in his WBC Heavyweight Title clash with Vitali Klitschko, my thoughts instantly shot back to the 24th of January 1976 when “Big” George Foreman looked to rebound from his agonizing loss to Muhammed Ali by facing Ron Lyle in one of the greatest Heavyweight Slugfests of all time. Multiple knockdowns and a huge display of punching power were the order of the day back then, and although heavyweight boxing has fallen on hard times of late I wonder if we might just get a resurgence of sorts with this clash of the big men at Staples Center on Sept 26. Roy Jones Jr.’s Current Competitiveness Cements Past Greatness
Saturday August 22nd, 2009
by K.M. Stansen
It’s not a secret that most of the loyal Roy Jones Jr followers have wished for him to retire from boxing for several years over. I certainly do not disagree with their sentiment and in being right minded with all of the other compassionate followers of this game; I enjoy witnessing as many examples of fighters retiring with their health intact as physically permitted. Sometimes we do find that certified legends stay in the game far too long and that they typically end up so physically eroded that they can not even defeat opponents that would have made for 2nd line consideration tune ups during their best years. The other example are legends that stay in the game for too long but only physically erode to a point that will keep them well past their best showings, effectively putting the hope of defeating those who are currently top ranked out of reach, but still leaving them physically sound enough to tool 2nd raters and give their fans ‘glimpses’ of the old glory. Williams and Harrison in Prizefighter Heavyweights III
MATCHROOM SPORT’S hugely successful Prizefighter returns in October with a new look and arguably the most exciting crop of British heavyweights ever assembled under one roof.
Taking place at London’s iconic boxing venue, the York Hall in Bethnal Green, on Friday, October 2, Prizefighter – the Heavyweights III - features former British, Commonwealth and European champions going for glory in a night where careers are on the line.
British Heavyweight Champion, Danny Williams, the man who effectively ended the career of Mike Tyson, steps up to the Prizefighter plate and will be joined by Olympic gold medallist, Audley Harrison, who will be looking to resurrect his career one more time.
“I’m looking forward to competing in the next instalment of Prizefighter,” said Harrison from his training base in California.
“I’ve been waiting for a solid opportunity to return to the ring and I intend to show my career is far from over. Read more »
Former Cruiserweight King, Steve ‘USS’ Cunningham, Dispels Injury Rumour
Monday August 17th, 2009
Since the convincing victory over former WBC champ Wayne ‘Big Truck’ Braithwaite, at the IBF Cruiserweight title eliminator at Sunrise, Florida on the 11th July, there has been surprisingly little news coming out of Steve ‘USS’ Cunningham’s camp.
This silence appears to have set the rumour mill spinning into overtime with many highly respected boxing publications and websites around the world publishing reports that former Cruiserweight King ‘USS’ Cunningham had injured his hand during the fight against Guyana’s ‘Big Truck’ Braithwaite and would not be ready for the proposed International Boxing Federation title showdown with Adamek at the Prudential Center in Newark this coming October.
