Bernard Dunne and Poonsawat Kratingdaenggym To Fight For WBA Super Bantamweight Unification in Ireland

WBA Super Bantamweight World Champion Bernard Dunne looks set to make the first defense of his title against Thai fighter Poonsawat Kratingdaenggym in Dublin on September 26.

After neither camp could strike and deal or come to a comprise, with Kratingdaenggym’s (38-01) team pushing for the fight to be in Thailand and Camp Dunne reluctant to travel away from the O2, the bout went to purse bid in Spain yesterday evening.

Dunnes manager Brian Peters won the right to promote the fight with a bid of just 120,000 USD, the minimum bid required, meaning another big fight night in Dublin for Dunne’s partisan and vocal supporters.

The WBA have given three possible dates and venues for the fight between Regular Champion, Dunne and Interim Champion, Kratingdaenggym.

Considering the venues and dates put forward by the governing body are New York, USA on October 3, Macau, China, October 2 and Dublin, Ireland September 26, it seems certain the fight will be in the O2 later this year.

It’s a big coup for Dunne and Brian Peters Promotions as the home advantage will make the Neilstown native the favorite for the clash between the two WBA champions.
