BigTime Timmy Tells It Like It Is…This Column Is Fire Edition

by BigTime Tim Kudgis

I would like to welcome back my legions of loyal fans and thank you all once again for reading what could be the single most underrated boxing column on the internet today, and I can’t forget to mention future P4P. There is a boatload of things we are going to discuss today. I would like to do more of an intro… but hey, who needs it? Lets get into the good stuff.

Eddie Chambers upsets Alexander Dimitrenko on the 4th of July in Germany for the WBO mandatory position:

Poor Sascha did not know what he was in for when he agreed to fight “Fast” Eddie. Right now he has to be feeling betrayed by the media, the majority of the boxing fans, his team, the odds makers, the judges in Germany, and his fans who ultimately turned into “Fast Eddie” fans. Almost everyone had written this fight off as a win for Dimitrenko including myself, but of course I should elaborate. I told the world the Eddie would easily handle good ol’ Sascha but those tricky judges over in Germany normally give the hometown favorite a 7 round lead. I tried to tell “Fast” Eddie that when I first heard the fight was in talks but he told me not to worry about it. Then on the 4th of July in the best shape of his career… he shocked not only the German fans, but the world! He soundly decisioned the towering Ukrainian while getting credit for knockdowns twice. The fight was so one sided that the judges couldn’t even take the victory away. Eddie Chambers, I salute you!

Does Dan Goossen favor Chris Arreola over Eddie Chambers?

Before this Saturday I was prepared to bash Mr. Goossen because of how different these two heavyweights are treated. For example, “Fast” Eddie was headed over to Germany for the second time to try to earn a title shot, when Mr. Goossen held a press conference with “The Nightmare” where they demanded he get a title shot. This was extremely laughable. Let’s compare resumes:

Chris Arreola

Eddie Chambers

If you say Arreola has the better resume because he is undefeated you are simply dumb. Who has he beat to deserve a #1 Ranking? If Arreola wants a challenge to earn respect, then he can fight an Oliver McCall. He is an extremely durable veteran who will push him to the limits. The mixture of styles would equal an all out war. We would get to see if Arreola had it in him to dig down deep in order to pull out a victory, instead of picking off completely over matched opponents. Honestly, if Arreola takes Ruiz up on his challenge and defeats him he will have earned my respect, but I am guessing my respect isn’t worth a nickel to him. I truthfully felt that Mr. Goossen was favoring “The Nightmare” because of his ethnicity and following. Though after asking “Fast” Eddie what he felt about this topic on Sunday’s edition of OnThEGRiND BoXiNG RaDIo I changed my mind. He said he believed that Dan Goossen matched him up in the tougher fights because he had faith he could get the victory. Hopefully that is the case, but let’s move on to 2 young heavyweight prospects risking their 0s in a real challenge.

Kevin Johnson vs Odlanier Solis on August 15th, 2009:

Normally I would scoff at Uncle Bob for putting a Top Rank PPV on with a foreign headliner. Not to take anything away from Nonito Donaire, but to take away from the usual shit undercards Top Rank puts on. What I have noticed is that Bob “Money” Arum has been trying to put a big fight with American based fighters on his Independent PPV’s. Now I am going to give credit where credit is due. First, The Bobfather… for putting Solis in front of such a stiff test. Second, the man who is becoming one of my favorite promoter’s… Joe DeGuardia. Not only did he match his two best heavyweights up against each other last time out, but now he is matching “Kingpin” against a really tough opponent. Third, props to the fighters… because they are two prospects that are not afraid to get dirty and earn a shot at a title. The losers career will be far from over, but the winner should be propelled to a title eliminator at the least. This is how it is done Mr. Goosen!

Showtime’s proposed Super Middleweight Tournament:

Let me start by giving props to Rick Reeno from Boxingscene.com for breaking this story. My first thought when I read this was…boomshackalackashackalackashackalackaboom.

Really, a 6-man round robin tournament where everyone fights everyone. WOW! The proposed contestants are WBC Titlist Carl Froch, WBA Titlist Mikkel Kessler, IBF MW Titlist Arthur Abraham, former MW King Jermaine Taylor, and top prospects Andre Dirrell and Andre Ward. There is a proposed point system in place that would propel 4 fighters to the semi-finals, and 2 fighters to the finals. This is what boxing needs. Everyone fighting Everyone. The only snag seems to be Kessler’s manager Palle holding him hostage until Sauerland offers him lots of Euros. Hey, if he can’t compete I am sure there are enough suitable replacements to take his place. I personally would love to see former Contender winner Sakio Bika get his shot at Glory.
There is so much going on in the Boxing World! It has me so excited. I may just get off my lazy ass and write a column next week. I feel guilty when I miss a week because I let my millions and millions of readers down. Check back next week for BigTime Timmy, aka Tim E. Swagger for your next fix.
