On Friday night I was disappointed that there was not a Friday Night Fights card on ESPN, so I decided to channel surf, and as a fun surprise I landed on Telemundo boxing. It wasn’t a live card, but regardless I did not know the results, so I sat back and enjoyed the boxing matches for the night and I have to say that the main event draw Tomoki “El Mexicanito” Kameda is definitely a prospect to keep your eye on.

I guess the first thing that you will notice about him is the fact that he isn’t Mexicanito, he’s actually from Tokyo, Japan. The next thing that comes to mind is the fact that of his 8-0 undefeated pro record, seven of his wins come by way of knock out.

The first round against Alejandro Dotor left a lot to be desired, especially since Alejandro hasn’t won a match, and the ref had to come in and actually tell these two boxers that they need to start throwing punches. After hearing the announcers and checking up on Tomoki later on, I realized that Tomoki always feels a boxer out in the first round before coming out and showing his skills.

With a tremendous body shot he took Alejandro out in the third round, and in the fight before this one
he fought Tatsuhiro Kumobayashi who had a 5 and 1 record with a TKO in the fourth. I believe that this Man is indeed a prospect that can do some serious things in the bantamweight division.

The last thing that needs to be mentioned is that he is only 17 years old! He’s still not even considered an adult, and hes knocking these guys out, and tossing them to the side like they were yesterday’s newspaper. He can not buy a beer or fight for his country, but he can knock grown men out. Plus a Japanese kid that calls himself “El Mexicanito,” how can you not love that?

This concludes another prospect update from Jesse Rican, OnThEGRiND.
