Main Events Boxing Statement on Arturo Gatti
With all due respect to the Brazilian authorities, we knew Arturo Gatti and we do not believe that he took his own life. Members of Arturo’s family, along with his boxing manager Pat Lynch, are conducting their own investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death. We believe that once the results of that investigation are revealed, the truth will come to light and justice will be done.
Bronx Bombers Invade Mohegan Sun
This Saturday, August 1st, Joe DeGuardia’s Star Boxing brings world championship boxing back to the Mohegan Sun Resort and Casino in Uncasville, CT, when Star Boxing’s IBF #2 rated Delvin Rodriguez (24-2-2, 14KO) takes on the IBF #3 rated Isaac Hlatshwayo (28-1-1, 10KO) for the vacant IBF Welterweight Championship of the World.

Hatton Backing Macklin To Conquer Europe and the World
Ricky Hatton is backing British Middleweight Champion Matthew Macklin to conquer Europe and the World over the next 12 months. The Birmingham man is the latest addition to Hatton’s new promotional outfit and “The Hitman” has moved quickly to secure a European title shot for his newest signing.
Macklin will contest the vacant European Middleweight title with World ranked Finn, Amin Asikainen at the Manchester Velodrome on September 25th as he looks to move within touching distance of a World title fight. Having won 5 World titles himself Hatton knows exactly what it takes to get to the very top and he believes that Macklin has all the right ingredients.
Hatton, who has yet to make a decision on his own ring career said, “I’ve had my fair share of success with World titles in the ring but now I want to start producing World Champions as a promoter and I firmly believe that Matthew Macklin will be one of them.
“I’ve known Matthew for a long time, we’ve trained together, sparred together and worked each others corners over the years and I’ve always believed that he has the ability to go all the way. He won the British title in very impressive fashion last time out and I think he has the ability to step straight up to European title level and I’m delighted to be able to give him that opportunity on one of my shows.” Read more »

Thursday July 30th, 2009
by D. Klarman
UNCASVILLE, Connecticut — Confident South African Isaac Hlatshwayo will fight a rematch against Dominican Delvin Rodriguez for the vacant International Boxing Federation welterweight crown here on Saturday.
Hlatshwayo, 28-1-1 with 10 knockouts, and Rodriguez, 24-2-2 with 14 knockouts, fought to a draw last November in South Africa. The rematch will take place near Rodriguez’s training base.
“I can’t wait to get into the ring,” Rodriguez said. “This is an absolute dream come true to me, fighting for the championship in front of my hometown fans. I’m not going to leave any doubt this time who is the winner.”
Hlatshwayo said he did not make the journey to America to return home empty handed.
“I am physically and mentally 100 percent ready,” Hlatshwayo said. “The last fight is water under the bridge. I can not change the outcome of that fight but I can assure you I’m going to bring the IBF belt back with me to South Africa.” Read more »

Tomasz Adamek vs Bobby Gunn in Retrospect…Action Halted With Gunn’s Ammo Locked and Loaded
Monday July 27th, 2009
by James Thurston Wallstreet III
On July 11th, 2009 at the Prudential Center in Newark, NJ, Bobby Gunn tried to snatch the IBF and Ring Magazine Championship from the grasp of Tomasz Adamek. Instead the Ringside Doctor snatched away what could have been a Rocky like story from the grasp of Bobby Gunn. Let me make this clear, I am not saying that Mr. Gunn would have won or even gone the distance, but he was the victim of a disgusting premature stoppage.
In my last article I touched on this fight when going over the investments people should make. I found it ludicrous that a World Title fight had the over/under of 4.5, and it was paying out a dividend of 1.5/1. This is what I stated:
“Investment Opportunity- Tomasz Adamek (-2500) vs Bobby Gunn (+1100)
Investment Decision- I said before I was not going to touch this fight due to hometown favorites, but the over/under has caught my eye. I am pretty much positive it will make it to the 5th round. My final decision is $100 on over 4.5 (+175).” Read more »

Devon Alexander Works Out for Media in St. Louis
ST. LOUIS—Undefeated World Boxing Council No. 1-ranked super lightweight and mandatory challenger Devon Alexander “The Great” opened his final workout today to the media in his hometown Marquette Gym in St. Louis prior to departing for Rancho Mirage, Calif., to make his first appearance in a world championship boxing match.
Alexander will face former WBC super lightweight champion Junior “The Hitter” Witter on Aug. 1 for the same title that was recently vacated by Timothy “Desert Storm” Bradley, who, ironically, is fighting on the same SHOWTIME-televised doubleheader (9 p.m. ET/PT) at Agua Caliente Casino, Resort and Spa against former unified lightweight world champion Nate “Galaxxy Warrior” Campbell.
“I’ve watched tapes on Junior Witter,” Alexander said. “He’s a crafty, slick fighter that likes to take pot shots at you when he gets the opportunity. My goal is to give him something where he will not be able to stay with that all night. I want to dominate him for 12 rounds. I want to be smart and aggressive at the same time.” Read more »
Froch – “Dirrell’s no Super Man”
WBC Super Middleweight Champion Carl Froch has laughed off any suggestions that unbeaten American star Andre Dirrell has got under his skin ahead of their opening round Super Six clash in Nottingham on October 17th.
Dirrell boasted yesterday that Froch would be his “easiest fight” in the groundbreaking new series which also includes WBA champ Mikkel Kessler, IBF Middleweight champ Arthur Abraham, former Undisputed Middleweight title holder Jermain Taylor and Olympic Gold medallist Andre Ward.
Froch will enjoy home advantage for the bout at the Trent FM Arena in Nottingham with tickets for the event going on sale next week and he says all the pressure will be on Dirrell to back up his words when he arrives in the U.K.
“I’ve heard all that kind of talk before so it doesn’t bother me,” said Froch. “It’s Dirrell who has to worry about backing up that big talk. I actually believe he’s quite nervous about the series so he’s trying to talk himself up. Read more »
Arturo Gatti Memorial Mass July 30th Jersey City
Friends and fans of Arturo “Thunder” Gatti are invited to attend a memorial Mass that will be held in his honor on Thursday evening, July 30th at 7 p.m. St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic in Jersey City.
“Since it was not possible for so many of Arturo’s friends and fans in the US to attend his funeral this past weekend in Montreal, we think that it is only right to give them the opportunity to celebrate Arturo’s life and pay their respects next Thursday at St. John’s,” said Gatti’s boxing manager and mentor, Pat Lynch.
“Arturo was much more to me than a business associate or even a friend,” said Lynch, who handled Gatti throughout his 17-year professional boxing career. “I am humbled and honored by the fact that he considered me to be his second father. I don’t know if I will ever get over losing him.”
“Arturo Gatti was a living legend whose passion in the ring was exceeded only by his great loyalty to the people he truly loved and cared for,” Kathy Duva of Gatti’s longtime promoter, Main Events, said. “Words are inadequate to describe the unspeakable sadness of losing him this way. Read more »
Andre Dirrell on WBC Super Middleweight Champ Carl Froch: “…Easy to Hit and He’s Slow!!!”
Wednesday July 22nd, 2009
Unbeaten American star Andre “The Matrix” Dirrell has come out all guns blazing ahead of his Super Six showdown with WBC Super Middleweight Champ Carl Froch on October 17th.
Froch will have home advantage for the clash with promoter Mick Hennessy confirming that the fight will take place at the Trent FM Arena in Nottingham with tickets for the event going on sale next week.
The bout takes place on the opening night of the Super Six World Boxing Classic, a groundbreaking new tournament which will ultimately crown the World’s best Super Middleweight and produce a strong candidate for the best pound for pound fighter on the planet.
Dirrell, an Olympic medallist from the Athens Games in 2004 has racked up 18 straight wins in the paid ranks and he’s dismissed Froch as the weakest in the Super Six line-up which also includes WBA champ, Mikkel Kessler, IBF Middleweight title holder Arthur Abraham, former Undisputed Middleweight champ Jermain Taylor and 2004 Olympic Gold medallist Andrew Ward.
“I begged to get Froch in my first fight,” revealed Dirrell. “He’s the guy I wanted. This is going to be my easiest fight. This is the fight where I’ll show off and look my best and that’s a guarantee. I’ll look my best there because he’s just that easy to hit and he’s slow.” Read more »
