Juan Manuel Marquez vs. Floyd Mayweather Jr. Back On In September

Sunday June 28th 2009
by Jesse Rican - OnThEGRiND BoXiNG New York

Yes! ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, children of all ages leeettttttsssss get ready to rumble!

Prior to the cancellation of the fight’s original date, everyone talked about how the ticket sales were so low, and how few people had any interest in this fight, now things have changed….the fight is back on for September 19th, 2009 and my prediction has not changed.

Now the fight is even better! There is an injury that makes the outcome of the fight an uncertainty, and gives an excuse for Mayweather and his fans alike. I predict after he loses to Marquez in a 12 round fight, we will hear Mayweather say that he blames his performance on both his injury not having fully recovered, and his nearly two year absence from the ring.

After all the criticism I’ve been getting for predicting Marquez to win, we will finally get a chance to see everyone who doubted me eat their own words. Even the Bobfather himself said that Mayweather wanted an easy win, and he can counter punch Marquez around the ring all day.

Is it possible? Of course it is.

Here are my arguments. We saw Mayweather lose to Castillo, but he was still handed a victory.

What did his fans blame it on? A bad rib injury…a little bit of a De Ja Vu?

Now we have Marquez, who has momentum, and is a true warrior.

A man doesn’t get up from the floor after being sent to the canvas three times to fight to a draw unless he’s a warrior.

We also know that Marquez knows he’s going against another counter puncher. What if we see a change in style? Juan Manuel Marquez, has fought in battles that one can not even imagine, and has come successfully come back from adversity in the past.

I would like to borrow words from Billy Lyell’s interview with OnThEGRiND BoXiNG RaDIo, just prior to his fight with John Duddy. “Everyone can count you out, but when you’re in that ring, its only you two.” Well Marquez has one fan that has never counted him out, and that will be Jesse Rican.

Is there anyone as excited as I am for the fight to be back on? Probably not, but come September 19th, 2009 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas there will be thousands of fans shocked. When it all goes down, I will be watching with a smile on my television saying to myself “I knew it.”

Marquez UD in 12 is my final prediction and I’m sticking to it…and with the rib injury, I’m just feeling a bit more confident.
