NHT Promotions Seeks Injunction to Stop Rigondeaux on ESPN2 Friday Night Fights

Cork, Ireland
Irish boxing manager Gary Hyde, president of NTH Promotions, is seeking an injunction to prevent 2-time Olympic champion Guillermo Rigondeaux from fighting on the July 17th ESPN2 Friday Night Fights show in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Rigondeaux (1-0, 1 KO), fighting as a bantamweight, now lives in Los Angeles after defecting from Cuba, where he was a 7-time national champion. The 28-year-old southpaw also won multiple World Championships titles, as well as a gold medal at the 2003 Pan-Am Games, during his incredible 243-4 amateur career.
“I first met Rigo in Belfast at the 2001 World Boxing Championships and subsequently traveled to Cuba,” Hyde explained. “Rigo signed a 5-year management contract with me in March of 2007. I am currently battling in the Miami courts to enforce our management agreement because he made his pro debut under the management of GSMG LTD and Marcus Concepcion, who work closely with the Arena Box outfit. I could find no record of either holding a manager’s license. Read more »

Las Vegas, Nv
Macke Roberts, CEO of Grind 2 Def Entertainment announced today the launching of “Fight 2 Win” a new boxing series that will feature some of the most exciting fighters in professional boxing from around the world. This new boxing series will be televised worldwide over the internet on the Fight 2 Tha Finish 2 channel.
Macke Roberts of Grind 2 Def Entertainment says, “Professional boxing is the best sport in the world and I feel there needs to be more boxing on television available to the fans.. There are currently a lot of talented fighters in the world who are not getting the opportunity to fight on television to market themselves and build their fan base. I grew up in the era of boxing where I watched mainstream superstars like, Joe Frazier, Muhammad Ali, George Foreman, Roberto Duran, Sugar Ray Leonard, Marvin Hagler and Thomas Hearns. There is a void in boxing right now with a lack of recognizable mainstream stars. I want to change that situation by working with boxing promoters and providing them with a platform that will allow fighters to fight on internet television to a worldwide audience that will increase their marketability and fan base.” Read more »

“Scottish” Craig McEwan Remains Unbeaten
Edinburgh boxer “Scottish” Craig McEwan extended his unbeaten run to 16 fights when he beat tough veteran middleweight, Ohio’s Darnell Boone on points over 8 rounds at LA’s Staples Center on Saturday night.
Cheered on by his promoter, Goldenboy Promotion’s Oscar Dela Hoya, McEwan finished the bout with a badly gashed left eye which later required stitches.
The Scot’s build-up to the fight was marred by the diagnosis of a stress fracture to a bone in his left hand just 4 weeks ago, necessitating a preparation free of sparring until 7 days before the bout.
“I sparred 3 rounds last Saturday and the hand held up so we decided to go ahead with the fight. It wasn’t an ideal way to approach a bout against such an experienced, awkward opponent but I was desperate to fight.” Read more »
