Rigondeaux Pro Debut In Jeopardy
Friday May 22nd, 2009

In March of 2009 the world should have been shocked when Gary Hyde announced that he had signed Guillermo Rigondeaux. No one seemed to take notice of this news. Most people subscribed to the idea that Hyde was a nobody. But here we are three months later awaiting a verdict from a Miami court.
Gary had invested countless hours of time and countless dollars in his pursuit of Rigondeaux, a legendary Cuban Olympian. Rigondeaux signed to Hyde in 2007, unfortunately Rigondeaux later signed with Arena Box in 2009.
Up until this week Arena had only made half hearted attempts to resolve this situation, now Guillermo Rigondeaux’s debut is in serious Jeopardy. There is a hearing to be held in a Miami courtroom on the 22nd of May at 10am eastern time, and it is at this is time and place history will be written. Will Guillermo fight on Friday Night Fights ? Will Gary Hyde be granted an injunction against it ? These are the pending questions the boxing world’s insiders anxiously await.
Personally, I feel Rigondeaux will fight and his purse will be with held. However, this is not what I think should happen. Rigondeaux signed with Gary Hyde first. Many people have alleged that Guillermo may have been taken advantage of by Hyde, when in fact nothing can be further from the truth. I have seen how Gary deals with Luis Garcia, Alexi Acosta, and Big Mike Perez first hand. These lads have the best facilities and want for nothing. Gary has already stated that he would have no problem with Rigondeaux fighting out of Miami, so there is no need for Cubans or Cuban-Americans to have heart attacks.
