Floyd Joy Mayweather Sr. Retracts Statement About Oscar Defeating Pretty Boy

After watching the Oscar De La Hoya vs Floyd Mayweather Jr. fight a couple of years ago, I was disappointed in the bout to say the least, but I was also shocked when Floyd Mayweather Sr. commented after the match up that he believed his son lost the fight. I decided to ask Sr. about this statement when he graciously granted OnThEGRiND BoXiNG RaDIo’s request for an interview.

At first Floyd said that I must be mistaken about what he said, but after thinking about it Floyd recalled making the statement. He officially retracted the statement on the show, and further more said that he made the comments during a time of anger.

He also did not let us forget that if he was in De La Hoya’s corner that particular night, Oscar would have ended up winning the match.

Did Floyd see something in Oscar? Did he see any vulnerabilities in his son that he could have taken advantage of? Perhaps we will never know the answers, but it does appear in light of Floyd’s statement, that he is closer with his son now than he has been in recent years. The Mayweather Family might just get to live “happily ever after” one of these days, one can only hope.
