Chagaev Pulls Out, Ruiz Making Noise…But Does He Truly Deserve Another Shot?

Sunday May 31st, 2009
By Danny Jackaman

In the wake of the disaster surrounding the WBA Heavyweight Title, it seems John Ruiz as always has something to say on the issue. Never one to mince his words or turn away an opportunity to talk himself into another title shot, it seems Ruiz is demanding a 3rd fight with Nicolay Valuev and another shot at the WBA title to complete the trilogy nobody in boxing wanted.

On Friday May 29th, the confusion surrounding this particular alphabet title was all supposed to be put to rest, with ‘Champion’ Valuev all set to face off against his former-conqueror Ruslan Chagaev in what was billed as a ‘WBA Unification’ bout. You see, to understand the whole situation you have to go back to the first time Valuev and Chagaev faced off, back in April of 2007. Read more »

Cummings Drops Davis & Stevenson Remains Unbeaten in Baltimore

Baltimore, MD

Baltimore native Cory “Black Ice” Cummings upped his record to 17-4 (13 KO’s) with an emphatic 9th round stoppage of Washington DC’s Demetrius Davis 19-15-5 (7 KO’s) in the main event Friday night at the Du Burns Arena.

The opening round was a rough one for Cummings, who had to deal with a gash over his right eye following a clash of heads less than a minute in. With his opponent at a disadvantage, the slick Davis outboxed Cummings while frequently switching between orthodox and southpaw stances. Cummings was cut once again following a clash in the eighth, this time over the left eye. With a sense of urgency and behind on the cards, Cummings had a strong surge in the final minute of the eighth round. Read more »

Haye vs Klitschko…Will It Be One For The Ages ?

David Haye
Saturday, May 30th 2009
By Alex McIntyre - OnThEGRiND BoXiNG Scotland

The match up with a biblical twist is almost upon us with the highly anticipated clash between IBF/WBO Heavyweight Champion Wladimir Klitshcko and Former WBC,WBO and Ring Magazine Cruiserweight Champion David Haye. This modern day take on the classic story of David and Goliath took a poignant twist when David Haye appeared in the December 2008 issue of Men's Health Magazine with the severed head of Wladimir Klitshcko in a Reservoir Dogs style salute to the original tale, which of course ended with the savage decapitation of the great champion of the Philistines. The WBA Loves You Boxing Fan Part II…Nicolay Valuev

Friday May 29th, 2009
by Suge Green

When Nicolay Valuev and Ruslan Chagaev step between the ropes and into the ring in order to determine who the real WBA Heavyweight Champion is (I understand “real” and “WBA Champ” is an oxymoron, but bear with me), it will not be the first time. Oftentimes when a World Title bout is recontested, it is due to there being questions left unanswered previously. In Valuev and Chagaev’s previous meeting however, there were not many questions left unanswered. Chagaev won, Valuev lost. Nobody was clamoring for a rematch. Rather, there was an exclamation amongst boxing’s faithfully devoted, “Finally, the fraud is over!” Read more »

Wallstreet Report…Your Favorite Boxing Wager Consultant Returns

Friday May 29th, 2009
by James Thurston Wallstreet III

Welcome back to the Wallstreet Report! Whether you are on the front line in the boxing community, or you just make wagers on fight night, you are still investing in the sport one way or another. I am here to help you decide.

Here is a list I have complied of stocks from the past couple of fights!
Anthony Mundine: This is a fighter whose stock has basically stayed the same throughout his career. Even though he captured the IBO Middleweight title against Daniel Geale, he did so by way of split decision. A man who many insiders felt was a natural talent in the sport hasn’t seemed to capture the spotlight. With that being said it may finally rise soon. After his most recent victory he was pretty adamant about fighting Felix Sturm for the WBA title. If he is able to capture that title there will be nothing but big unification fights ahead for him. Should Strum give him the opportunity, I personally believe Mr. Mundine will add another title to his resume. Read more »

Team Ruiz Demanding Purse Bid For Valuev-Ruiz III

Friday May 29, 2009
Las Vegas, Nv

Upon today’s announcement that Valuev-Chagaev II has been canceled, Team Ruiz is demanding an immediate purse bid in order for Valuev-Ruiz III to be held by August 30 for the World Boxing Association heavyweight title.

Two-time World Boxing Association heavyweight champion John “The Quietman” Ruiz (43-8-1, 29 KOs) lost to Valuev last August 30th in Berlin by 12-round split decision. Team Ruiz petitioned the WBA for a variety of reasons regarding the conduct of the fight and in response to the appeal, the WBA declared Ruiz as its mandatory challenger for the winner of the Valuev-Chagaev title fight scheduled for this weekend in Finland. Perez KO12 Mabuza

Friday May 29, 2009
Johannesburg, South Africa

Behind on all scorecards at the beginning of the 12th round, Perez landed a huge left hand jab that sent Mabuza to the canvas. Buzzed and on uneasy legs Mabuza beat the count. Perez proceeded to apply pressure and landed huge shots leaving no option for referee Kenny Chevalier to stop the fight with 1:06 left in the last stanza.

With the victory, Perez (19-0, 14 KOs) becomes the mandatory challenger for Joseph Abgeko who fights Vic Darchinyan on July 11 for the IBF bantamweight title.

“My corner told me I was losing. I knew I had to throw decisive shots and try to knock him out,” said Perez after the fight. “I countered him and hit him right on the button, it was not a lucky shot. He was in his hometown and we battled hard, Mabuza is a lion, but I knew some close rounds were going to go his way. I’m ready for the big challenge now.”

Gunn Signs to Fight Adamek; Amped For a Career Defining Opportunity

When Bobby “The Celtic Warrior” Gunn initially challenged Tomasz Adamek in 2007, he had a clear motive. While many fighters call out the best simply for publicity, Gunn’s had something else in mind: a good old-fashioned slug out.

“Styles make fights, said Gunn, who holds the WBA-NABA and WBC-USNBC Cruiserweight titles. “Gunn vs Adamek will be the Adamek-Briggs of the Cruiserweight division. Fans want to see good fights and all I know how to do is entertain.” Read more »

Joining the OnThEGRiND BoXiNG Team for the 1st time is international light welterweight super star, Amir Khan. Currently in training at Wild Card Gym for his WBA Championship bout against Andreas Kotelnik, Amir takes time out to update the OtG BoXiNG Family on his career and the path still ahead of him.

Also making his exciting first appearance with the OtG Team, is undefeated KO artist Peter “KId Chocolate” Quillin.

OnThEGRiND BoXiNG has a full weekend of fight coverage ahead of them, and starts it off Thursday previewing all of the cards of interest including the WBC Welterweight Title fight between Andre Berto and Juan Urango.

Also, for the viewing displeasure of all of those in Europe and eastward, Nicolai Valuev looks to cement his fraudulent legacy by avenging his loss to the only man the judges have allowed to beat him, Ruslan Chagaev. The OnThEGRiND BoXiNG Team is not expecting a real fight, and are not waiting for another travesty (see Holyfield, or randomly select your own Valuev “win” for example) like other boxing news outlets to air out the welterweight in a bigfoot suit known as Nicolai Valuev, who will only remain silent in the aftermath anyway. Of note is the fact that this fight is being billed as “The Giant’s Revenge,” with a large picture of Valuev, and a small one of Chagaev in the background of the fight poster. This fight may become known as “The Judges Revenge.”

Of particular interest to fans of all the things that make boxing great, is the bout between friends of OnThEGRiND BoXiNG Alfredo Angulo and Kermit Cintron this weekend. Be ready for a war.
