Return Of The Mac…Martin ‘Mac Man’ Lindsay Ready For Belfast Title Clash
April 22nd, 2009
London, UK -
Belfast’s Martin ‘Mac Man’ Lindsay (13-0) is coming home in style and is
more than ready for his biggest challenge to date, when he takes on
British Featherweight champion, Scotland’s Paul Appleby (14-0), for his
title on the 25th April at Ulster Hall in Belfast.
Lindsay, the current Irish Boxing Writer’s “Young Prospect Of The Year”,
secured the right to face Appleby for the coveted Lonsdale belt after a
stunning come-from-behind 9th round knockout of Liverpool’s Derry Mathews
in September ‘08 at David ‘Hayemaker’ Haye’s promotional debut event in
Sheffield.
Steve ‘USS’ Cunningham: Old School Throwback Warrior

The OnThEGRiND BoXiNG family was recently treated to the pleasure of listening to Steve ‘USS’ Cunningham, a real world old school throwback gem, tell it like it is with great information into what goes on in the life of a highly avoided elite level boxer. For the readers whom aren’t familiar with Steve, I’d like to assert that he’s a near P4P kind of talent with a true champions mentality in that he will fight anybody, anywhere, anytime and will go for the risks that the majority of fighters today will not. Throwbacks are sadly a dying breed in this day and age although we still have some fearless warriors that are keeping the dim, flickering flame in the throwback fighter’s lantern steadily burning.
Not only did I personally get to listen to a great interview with a guy who doesn’t get much press, but I was also graciously pleased to participate in interviewing the tough nosed ’slickster’ with the rest of the OnThEGRiND BoXiNG crew and found many suspicions about boxing’s back door activities further confirmed. Tune Up or Tear Down…???…Pretty Boy Floyd Mayweather Jr. Prepares To Meet Pound4Pound Rival Juan Manuel Marquez In His Return Match
Wednesday April 22, 2009

As we approach the promised return of undefeated pound for pound champion emeritus Floyd Mayweather Jr., one can’t help but wonder, has a boxer of Floyd’s calibre ever returned from an extended absence from the ring only to lose a tune up match? The question bears asking as recent announcements bring news that the negotiations are progressing between the camps of Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Juan Manuel Marquez…and that there are few issues holding up the fight.
Firmly established as one of the front runners in the mythical Pound4Pound race, Marquez is as equally puzzling as he is crowd pleasing a choice for a tuneup fight. In an surprisingly uncharacteristic move, Floyd has decided to put his courage on display for all to see this time. As some are aware, I harshly criticized Mayweather in an article recently, demanding that if he wants to prove he’s the best he must face four boxers . I then went on to name all of the serious threats currently on the radar…well almost all. Juan Manuel Marquez’s name indeed did escape my mind, but what a great fight this one will turn out to be.
