OnThEGRiND BoXiNG RaDIo Ep 61 feat. Tomasz Adamek, Peter Manfredo Jr., Billy Lyell & Jamaal Davis
(347)843-4293 Call-in LIVE. OnThEGRiND BoXiNG RaDIo is LIVE Thursday April 30th at 8pm et/5pm pt (1am Friday gmt) with the Manny Pacquiao-Ricky “The Hitman” Hatton preshow spectacular. Only days away from the boxing event of the year, the building hype is finally nearing it’s peak and at OnThEGRiND BoXiNG it’s only too evident. Expect a sizable portion of back and forth banter as not only continents, but world’s collide in a clash of east and west, between two of the world’s most beloved boxers.
After much anticipation, the man in the cruiserweight division, Champion Tomasz Adamek stops by for a talk with the OnThEGRiND BoXiNG Team. Fans worldwide are dying to find out what Tomasz’ plans are. With so many top fighter’s names in the mix recently for a bout with Adamek, OtG is forced to go straight to one of the world’s most popular fighters for clarity.
The Pride of Providence Peter Manfredo Jr., coming off of his frightening KO victory over Walid Smichet, joins the OtG Team tonight as he provides a look ahead and shares a bit of his story with the OnThEGRiND BoXiNG Family. For whatever reason the young Manfredo has the ability to polarize boxing fans and is one of the few fighters to appear both near the top of many fans’ favorites lists, and simultaneously on many hated (in a sporting sense) lists. Even the resistant should be warned, Manfredo might make a fan out of you yet. Definitely on the agenda for the OtG Team with Manfredo is getting a list of possible opponents, as the former Contender star’s next move isn’t 100% now that our next guest may have jeopardized a seemingly imminent showdown with Ireland’s John Duddy.
Without any further delay, Youngstown Ohio’s man of the hour, Billy Lyell returns to OnThEGRiND BoXiNG after accomplishing his mission and handing Ireland’s John Duddy his first defeat. What a fantastic moment for Youngstown and for Billy as the first page to a new chapter of his career was written less one week ago. One of boxing’s inspirational stories of 2009 is being written as we speak, and it’s starring Billy Lyell.
Rugged and ring tough middleweight Jamaal Davis also appears OnThEGRiND to let the boxing world know what important cause he is fighting for, the team is all ears for this, as the early word is that it’s much more important and precious than championship gold.
Take part in the world’s most interactive boxing radio program…OnThEGRiND BoXiNG RaDIo takes the boxing world’s stars and prospects out of the gym and brings them straight to your phone and Ipod. The card was made up of five entertaining fights, headlined by Star Boxing’s heavyweight fan favorite Vinny Maddalone taking on Benji “Boom Boom” Baker.
Maddalone, who is known for his all-action come forward style, didn’t disappoint his hometown fans, going straight at Baker from the opening bell, landing huge left hooks and thunderous overhand rights. A big overhand right as the bell sounded to end the first sent Baker down hard. Read more »

Timothy Bradley Vacates WBC Super Lightweight Championship
Don Jose:
It has been a privilege representing the World Boxing Council as its super lightweight champion for the past 12 months and no one was more proud to wear that illustrious green belt than I.
The WBC believed in me and recognized my victories, advancing my ratings accordingly. Because of your support I was able to challenge Junior Witter for the WBC title last year and defend it and unify it, and for that I will always be grateful. It is important that unified champions should be encouraged thus eliminating the title confusion that permeates the sport or the media that cover it and the fans who follow it.
However, because the WBC has issued an edict to choose between titles, it is with a heavy heart that I relinquish my WBC title and allow the contenders below me to challenge for it.
I will always cherish my reign as WBC super lightweight champion and I hope to have the opportunity to fight for that honor again.
Sincerely,
Timothy Bradley

Calzaghe on Carl Froch: “He doesn’t seem to realize that holding your hands up and defending yourself is a pretty vital part of boxing.”
All the loyal OtG BoXiNG Family checking for their world boxing headlines from OtG’s outstanding sidebar content should be aware of Carl Froch’s constant stalking of Joe Calzaghe in the press.
Joe is about at the end of his rope, and has grown tired of seeing his name in headlines with Carl Froch (sorry Joe, we are guilty too).
Among Joe’s recent comments about Froch is this gem, “He doesn’t seem to realize that holding your hands up and defending yourself is a pretty vital part of boxing.”
For more of Joe putting Froch in his place, check the Sky sidebar right here at OtG (use the right click).
[Note to lazy boxing fans: If you don't want to check on the content from the source I can think of a couple of websites off the top of my head who's editor is using a different name and rewriting Sky's content. OtG goes to the source. We are holding down the UK with people actually in the UK covering the scene. We are not 1 Polish guy in America pretending to be an Englishman in Europe. OtG is Worldwide. We ain't lyin'. Chuck a deuce.]
Team Manfredo Entry for KO of the Year
Peter Manfredo Jr. had plans for a great ’09. Getting back on track with this brutal knock out of Walid Smichet, Peter’s next course of action was putting Ireland’s John Duddy inside his crosshairs. Unfortunately for Manfredo, Duddy ran into Billy Lyell last weekend.
When Manfredo appears OnThEGRiND this Thursday night the Team will get the scoop on what’s ahead, and try to find out who he would like to “Smichet” next. That is French for getting KTFO, right ?
Hopkins-Trinidad 2 - November 09′ Live in The NYC…Repeat or Revenge ?!?!?
Monday April, 27th, 2009
by Jack Johnson Presscot
September 21, 2001 was a date I’ll not soon forget. It was the final fight of Don “Only in America” King’s Middleweight Unification Tournament. Bernard Hopkins had earlier on secured the WBC Championship from Keith Holmes and unified it with his IBF Title. Tito Trinidad of course, had climbed to 160 pounds and obliterated poor William Joppy for the WBA Strap. Then it was Superfight time, and Bernard Hopkins had the audacity in Puerto Rico nonetheless, to snatch Tito’s little flag and toss it on the ground. For that act of disrespect, he was literally chased by an angry mob of Puerto Ricans back to the safety of nearby onlooking Police Officers. Read more »

Hackensack, NJ
Beating the best fighters in the world leads to respect, glory and often most importantly, personal satisfaction. Without question, defeating elite fighters is the ultimate accomplishment for a boxer. World rated Cruiserweight Bobby Gunn has been impatiently awaiting this type of opportunity since his controversial fight with Enzo Maccarinelli in 2007. Gunn, 21-3-1 (18 KO’s) who is the current WBA-NABA and WBC-USNBC Cruiserweight title holder, issued a challenge to Tomasz Adamek last night in Newark.
Gunn ran into Adamek as the two were entering the Prudential Center for a John Duddy headlined card and once again made the recognized Cruiserweight champion aware of his desire to fight him, in a bout Gunn would bill as “The Garden State War”. Read more »
