Following Antonio Margarito's one-sided destruction at the lightning fast hands of Manny Pacquiao, it would seem there was a void to be filled in boxing. Margarito, universally branded the "dirtiest player in the game," may or may not have paid his penance - but he was punished either way. When Margarito's name came up until recently, thoughts of the "wrap-gate" scandal would rush to the front of a fan's mind. Now those thoughts are likely replaced by images of the "Tijuana Tornado's" wounded and swollen face. Did Manny Pacquiao win the war for fans against alleged cheaters, or simply a battle? Is the boxing ring now a safer place? Can fighters now compete without expecting treachery from the opposing corner? Did boxing's cowboy with the white hat, Pacquiao rid all rings of evil in Dallas last week?

OtG Ringside: Pacman Prevails >>>

Story by Natasha Aiello | Wed. Nov. 17, 2010

November 13th, 2010 will go down in history books as the day boxing witnessed it's own David beating Goliath. And soundly. There were no actual slingshots involved this time however, though Manny Pacquiao's devastating combinations probably felt much like an arsenal of rocks being unleashed on the bewildered Antonio Margarito. Though Margarito was five inches taller than Pacquiao, with a six-inch reach advantage as well as a 17 pound weight advantage come fight time, he gave validity to the old prose attributed to boxer, Robert Fitzsimmons, "The bigger they come, the harder they fall."

While it may be easy to dismiss Saturday's mega-fight between Manny Pacquiao and Antonio Margarito as a complete mismatch, one cannot deny that Margarito at least has the physical tools to make the fight interesting. Standing at nearly 6-feet-tall with a 73” reach, Margarito has quite the size advantage over the much smaller Pacquiao, who stands 5-foot-7-inches with a 67” reach. Of course, if size were the “be all/end all” factor boxing would be pretty boring these days (look no further than the heavyweight division for proof). Margarito has more to offer than meets the eye however, in this on-paper mismatch.

Boxing fans who have been demanding WBC Welterweight Champion Andre Berto step-up and fight a meaningful opponent have cause for joy this week. The HBO favorite has been what some are calling over-compensated, with HBO paying what appears to be above market value licensing fees for his fights. Is there a market correction taking place in the sport, or at HBO at least? Ross Greenburg of HBO was quoted by Dan Rafael saying, "The bottom line is Andre Berto will be in a big fight in early 2011, or he won't be on HBO."

OtG By The Numbers: Pacquiao's Possibilities >>>

by Suge Green | Mon. July 12, 2010

With Top Rank Promotions fairly quiet and both Golden Boy Promotions and Team Mayweather completely silent, many are wondering if Manny Pacquiao succeeded in calling the bluff of Floyd Mayweather Jr. In 2009 Mayweather demanded Pacquiao call him out. Mayweather made it clear all Pacquiao had to do was say his name, and he would make a fight with him without hesitation. It's also been stated by Mayweather, if Pacquiao agrees to his drug-testing demands there will be a fight.
